What is Wake-On-LAN?

Wake-on-LAN is an Ethernet computer networking standard that allows a computer to be turned on or woken up by a network message. The message is usually sent by a simple program executed on another computer on the local area network. In order to wake a computer you need the MAC address for that computer, and of course an IP address or hostname.

Personally, I thought it would be easier to be able to store those details in a web service.

Why?

Frankly the biggest reason to create this site was so that I could learn more about Ruby on Rails. This was just the first project that came to mind.

Why Ruby on Rails?

Mostly because I think it’s pretty awesome. To learn more about Ruby on Rails, go to rubyonrails.org.

Why “Wakify”?

Well, I tried a bunch of different domain names, and this was one that was available.

Is Wakify open source?

Yes! As of today the full source code for Wakify is available on Codaset.

As a courtesy, I only ask that you don’t use the Wakify design (logo, style, etc) if you set up your own publicly available version.

I found a bug, what should I do?

Well, you should submit a ticket on Codaset, or send me a message through the contact page.
